Two Names That Always Show Up Together, and How I Learned They Are Not the Same

In the tissue repair research, two peptides show up side by side so often that I assumed they were basically the same thing. A month of reading taught me they are not.

One of them, the stomach juice one, gets studied for new blood vessel growth and swelling. The other one comes from a protein your body already makes and gets studied for how cells move around and rebuild their insides. Different jobs, overlapping results.

The way researchers use them shows the difference. Some studies run them side by side just to compare the two paths. The point is not that one wins. The point is that they work on different steps of the same repair job.

The bigger lesson for me was about how I read. Things that look interchangeable from the outside usually are not once you slow down. The details are the whole story.

These days I read how a study was run before I read what it concluded. It is slower. It has also saved me from a handful of wrong assumptions.
